Newport, RI – This weekend’s series of contemporary ballet performances by Island Moving Company at Casino Theatre in Newport will feature choreography by IMC Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen and choreographers from Italy and Puerto Rico.

Simona De Tullio, Director of the Breathing Art Company based in Bari, Italy, will debut two pieces during Far to Near : Choreography. Closer, an event designed to showcase the company’s 13 nationally and internationally recruited dancers.

Simona and Charles Kehres, Company Manager for IMC, joined me on What’s Up Newp Radio on WADK 1540AM today to discuss the upcoming performance.

De Tullio’s work internationally has taken her to Germany, Spain, Hungary, and Albania with a mission to give young talent an opportunity to explore the art of dance. De Tullio has directed the international San Nicola Dance Prize since 2010, and is influenced in part by her collaborations with American contemporary ballet legend Alonzo King Lines Ballet.
