John Elkhay, CEO and Maestro of Chow Fun Food Group, which includes; Ten Prime Steak & Sushi, Luxe Burger Bar, Harry’s Bar & Burger and Xaco Taco announced today the hiring of Newport native, John Dunn, as general manager of Harry’s Bar & Burger in Newport.
“John truly is one of our best examples of a leader who steps up and shows he cares in all facets of the Harry’s Bar & Burger brand. John has helped foster a working environment that pushes all of his direct staff to strive for more. Our people have always been our greatest asset,” said John Elkhay, CEO of Chow Fun Food Group in a press release issued making the announcement.
Chow Fun Food Group owns and operates restaurants in Providence: 10 Prime Steak & Sushi, Luxe Burger Bar, Harry’s Bar & Burger and Xaco Taco as well as Veritas Catering. Co-owned by John Elkhay and Rick Bready, Harry’s Bar & Burger operates four locations in Rhode Island; the first two locations are in the heart of Providence, at 121 North Main Street and on Federal Hill at 301 Atwells Avenue. The third Harry’s is located at 200 Front Street in Lincoln and Newport is the newest home of Harry’s on 464 Thames Street.
This latest round of hiring to Chow Fun Food Group’s organizational hierarchy “reflects a renewed focus on growth, quality, and service excellence – all of which have been hallmarks of the company’s direction and growth”, according to the release..
John has deep ties to Newport and is a true native. He began working in the hospitality industry at the age of 15 as a busser/bar back at the Inn at Castle Hill, working his way up from waiter to bartender. After a short stint at the Outrigger in St Croix, he went back to his Newport roots, working at the Brick Alley Pub and Jimmy’s Saloon. While his family was young, John worked in Foodservice at Charlton Memorial Hospital before returning to his love of restaurants. John graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Johnson & Wales University.
