2018 Statewide Primary: Here’s how Newport residents voted


Newport, RI – Registered voters headed to the polls today in Newport to vote on local and statewide races.

Early numbers aren’t available for how many of the 15,407 registered voters in Newport voted today. There are 781,960 registered voters in Rhode Island as of August 31, according to the Secretary of State. Approximately 145,000 (18%) of those registered voters voted in today’s Statewide Primary.

Here’s how the votes landed in Newport, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

The results posted are preliminary and subject to certification by the Board of Elections. Please note that write-in ballot results are not included in the totals that appear. Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea told us on What’sUpNewp Radio earlier today that as of 6 pm on Tuesday evening, 5,076 mail ballots had been returned out of 6,265 requested statewide, and 3,327 emergency ballots had been cast statewide.
